Work
Mayfair
Page 01Mayfair is a six-story residential building beside the El Cerrito del Norte BART station. Its track-facing elevation, originally treated as the back of the building, is one of the first sides commuters see. We approached it as a public face, developing a reflective façade that changes with the position and movement of the viewer.
Page 02Working with Andrei Hakhovich of Gradient Matter, we developed an array of folded stainless-steel panels. Each fold catches a different part of the station, greenway, or sky, breaking the surroundings into reflections that align and slip apart as people pass. The arrangement was developed parametrically, with the panel system fabricated by S/U/M.
Page 03The wall has no single image. From the train, it changes quickly. From the greenway, it changes one step at a time. Light and fog add their own variations.
