FLUX
Flux: Architecture in a Parametric Landscape transformed the main corridor of California College of the Arts into a 100-foot immersive installation. Developed by faculty and students within CCA’s Architecture MEDIAlab, the project served as both exhibition and experiment—a full-scale structure exploring how parametric tools could organize information, material, and collective labor.
Page 02Divided into eight curatorial zones—from Stacked Aggregates to Woven Meshes—the installation’s surfaces were perforated with patterns derived from the projects on display. The form was continually evolving: Grasshopper scripts recalculated the geometry of its ribs and joints as new content arrived, sometimes only hours before fabrication.
Page 03Fabricated over two weeks and installed in a single day, the structure employed an interlocking tongue-and-groove system that accommodated changing geometries while simplifying assembly. This allowed students with varying levels of building experience to participate in construction, alignment, and installation. The system could also be disassembled within hours.
Page 04The project brought together exhibition, computation, and production, demonstrating how digital design tools could shape not only architectural form but also the organization of collaborative work.
